Newbie here.... Any expeditions going out there?
« on: March 05, 2007, 10:08:52 AM »
Hello, I am a newbie to this board and very interested in the paranormal.  I will be visiting the cemetary this Saturday to see what all of the hoopla is about.

I was wondering if anyone here is taking a night expedition anytime soon that I can join or perhaps guide a group of us there during the night.  I figured with the authorities, the darkness of the woods obscuring vision and the general visceral creepiness of the place, it would do well if someone with knowledge of the place could guide us through the experience....

Have patience, this isn't exactly an 'active' board.  It takes awhile for a post to build up replies so you might have to wait awhile before you can find someone to meet up with and guide you in at night, if at all.  I recommend looking over this board for advice on visiting at night.  I know you don't want to park in rubio woods lot, look for a neighborhood and park there, just make sure it is legal.  And sometimes the police hang around the main entrance at night so you might want to avoid entering there and figure out another way to get in.  If you haven't been to BG during the day I would strongly recommend to visit at daytime before venturing into the place at night.  That way you already have a feel for the area and surrounding woods.  Good luck, hope that helps.

i would definitely recommend going at night before the day, it would make the experience a lot more exciting..

but heres a list of things to NOT do..

dont bring alchohol
dont bring flashlights
dont light candles for a sceance or anything like that
dont talk louder than a whisper
dont make loud footsteps
if you are going at night, dont go before midnight b/c cops will patrol the surrounding area pretty well
dont litter
dont vandalize
dont be dissapointed if you dont see anything, although you probably will

and I would be interested in going sometime soon, i would be glad to guide you guys there.. if you havent gone already, when were you planning on going?

I don't know about not going in the day before night though.  And ALWAYS atleast go with one or two other people.  You probably do want to bring flashlights, just in case of an emergency.  And the cop patrol in my opinion largely depends on the weather.  Me and my friend have went in at 9 on a snowy night in december (don't worry, the cold is the last thing on your mind), and we didn't experience any problems.  To sum it up, it would be very helpful having someone experienced in "cemetery adventuring" go with you to be safe.  Other than that, have fun, respect the grounds, and most important of all, stay safe!

and like auroradoug said, dont park in the rubio woods parking lot.
and thanks noob, i changed my mind, bring flashlights, just absolutely do not use them unless its an emergency.. like i said, i would be willing to meet up with you some time soon, weekends would be best, and it would have to be late.

No clue, might just be due to the winter months.  Cemeteries aren't always near the top of your mind this time of year :P .  And about the Rubio woods lot, do they always have it roped off??  When we went at night, it was.  Just curious about it.

Thanks for the replies, all.  I kind of figured it is a relatively slow moving board (no sex talk = not a lot of hits).

I did get out there with a couple of friends in the day and it was just NICE!  I didn't have any creepy feeling of any sort.  It was just a beautiful sunny day in the woods in a quiet and peaceful patch of the world.  Being from the city and all, maybe we were just starved for fresh air, but it was nice.

What I did like was the work that the clean up crews had done.  If you look at older photos and video footage, it was a disaster area in there.  Now there is a garbage can by the entrance that people actually use and someone had gone through the trouble of placing little plastic flowers on every grave.  Aside from the interest in the paranormal, it inspired me to volunteer for the next clean up crew going out there!  It was sad to see so many of the monuments fallen over and the Shields monument was just literally parked under a tree.  On the "checkerboard" monument, someone had written 'typo' in black permanent marker.  Is this a new defacement?

Kappy, thank you very much for the offer, and I would love to take you up on that sometime.  Just e mail me at kyuball55@hotmail.com and tell me when it would be best for you.  Since you are gracious enough to offer, I would like to work around your schedule.  I would like to see it at night as well.  In fact, maybe everyone on this thread can maek it one big expedition!

Chicago.  I live like about three blocks from another haunted place: Wrigley Field (by 'haunted', I mean 'haunted by failure')

Hehehe.... Nah... I'm a life long North Sider!  Problem is, now that the Red Sox won a World Series, I think their fans' mopey, whiny pessimism has stuck to us and replaced our usual April optimism (This is the YEAR!  I CAN FEEL IT!!!)

Thanks for getting back to me kappy.  I was thinking around mid-April myself, so that shounds great!  I will PM you around then.

If you are intersted in volunteering, there is a clean-up date that is going to be announced for the very near future!

How does the night of April 20th (Friday) or 21st (Saturday) sound to folks here for a night expedition?  It seems, according to weather.com, that the ground may be a bit muddy that night due to light rain on Thursday, 19th, but the temperature will be nice (46 degrees) for a spring night.

If it sounds good, we'll plan a meeting place and get on in....

I'll probably try to go there early tomorrow morning before sunrise, assuming I can drag myself out of bed that early.  I'm expecting quite a few people there tomorrow, as it's Friday the 13th and all.

Oh tomorrow is Friday the 13th! That is right! Well if it isn't too windy, maybe I will go there with our little guy tomorrow as well!

I don't see any reason to get there TOO early seeing as how it will still be cold in the morning, but with a balmy high of fifty tomorrow - I may prefer to wait!

:)

Actually we just went today and it was quite lovely! The weather was perfect and everyone we came across was very friendly as well!

It looks as if the trash can has really helped out quite a bit on the trash, but people still insist on lighting candles on gravestones and then WALKING AWAY!

Excellent Idea! Leave three large candles, with pieces of wood added to them to make the flame burn even hotter and then LEAVE! What a plan! And seeing as how you are in a forest, this just makes the idea even better!
